Every year, I participate in the social media event #inktober. There is an official prompt list you can use for your drawings…then you share. However, I prefer to assign topics myself. For instance, one year I did an Inktober entirely inspired by the series “The Venture Bros.”
For Inktober 2026 I’ve paid homage to one horror movie a day for the whole of October. 31…count em 31 drawings. Some are okay…and some turned out really good (I’m biased). I picked classics and favorites. Note that there were SO many to pick from I could have kept going for a year (but my hand and family need a break). My favorite horror movie is “The Thing,” and it didn’t appear. In other words, absence from my homage is not a slight.
This year, I decided to show not only each drawing but also the entire process (condensed to 30 seconds thanks to Procreate’s feature). I put a one down below to show what I mean. I felt it necessary since I absolutely abhor Generative AI. People need to realize that the process is the gift. The work is the thing…not what you get from it. You can see all of these process videos on my Instagram or on TikTok.
